NOMINATIONS for the 2013 edition of the Zimbabwe Achievers Awards (ZAA) are now open, with organisers announcing two new international categories for outstanding achievement in popular music and gospel.
Founder and executive director of ZAA, Conrad Mwanza, said this year’s awards will recognise Zimbabwean musicians and gospel artistes regardless of where they are based.
“As opposed to the previous arrangement where only UK-based artistes were considered for the awards, we’ve knocked down the borders and are looking to celebrate those outstanding acts that have rocked music fans at home and abroad,” Mwanza said.
“The key criterion is that the nominated artistes need to have toured outside Zimbabwe and brought their music to audiences based abroad.”
Over the past two years, ZAA has set the standard in hosting exquisite red carpet events in premium venues, creating a platform for the Zimbabwean community in the UK to express its class and glamour while celebrating its achievements.
“What makes these awards more fun is that it is the people’s show. So get nominating right away, and then come out in style on April 20 to celebrate your choices,” Mwanza said.
Now in its third year, the ZAA celebrates professional and artistic achievements by people of Zimbabwean heritage in the Diaspora as well as the home country and promotes corporate social responsibility through supporting charitable causes.
Previous celebrity hosts of the show include Shingai Shonhiwa, lead singer of the UK chart-topping band The Noisettes, and actress Chipo Chung whose impressive body of work includes a performance alongside Oscar-winning British actress, Dame Hellen Mirren.
