The King of Bling, Desmond Stunner Chideme walked way with three awards at the inaugural Zim Hip Hop Awards ceremony held yesterday, 7 December, 2011 at 7 Arts Theatre.

Stunner has been in the news for releasing a sex tape, but this didn’t stop the self proclaimed Shark from scooping the award for best male Hip hop award, winning the nomination in a pool that included Tehn Diamond, Maskiri and Mr. Hingis.

Accepting the 1st award, the Tazoita Ca$h Records artist said, “To all my fans, my talent has got nothing to do with my private life.”

He walked on to the stage the 2nd time around with Ba Shupi and Mufesi Wangu Dzikamai to receive the award for Best Hip hop video for the song Godo which was competing with Wenera by Maskiri featuring Noxx and Grown up kid by Tehn Diamond.

In this instance Stunner told the crowd “Ndimi vanhu vacho pasina imimi hapana isusu”(you are the people, without you there is no us).

Power FM Dj Smiley came up to the podium to present Stunner with yet another award for the best song of the year for Godo. This time Stunner went on stage accompanied by his girl friend, Pokello and said, “We lead, others follow!”

Other people to walk away with awards included the Bulawayo-based POY for people’s choice award, Swagger With A Twist (S.W.A.T) and Kenyan-based Shingirai ‘Mau Mau’ Sabeta who received the life time achievement award, Meta-Physics for best hip hop artist in the diaspora and High Definition for best dance crew.

The Best Female Hip hop artist award went posthumously to the late Amelia David who was signed to Bryce Music and, unfortunately died at the tender age of 16. Her family, bearing a banner writen R.I.P came on stage to take the award. Miss Universe Zimbabwe Lisa Morgan urged the crowd to take a moment of silence to honour the late artist.

Mix Masterz scooped the Best Producer award, Dizzy Don the Best Promoter award, Mariachi Best Album for Purple Blazer, A.M.V.I.S for Best Newcomer, Power Fm’s Rumbidzai Moyo aka Lady of Distinction for Best DJ and Mc Chita, Junior Brown and Alkamai for Best hip hop collaboration.

The awards were put together to celebrate Zimbabwean Hip Hop artists.
