The surprise arrest of controversial Dancehall artiste, Adidja “Vybz Kartel” Palmer could be the first of many within the Jamaican music industry as police claim more artistes are under investigation for various murders.

Kartel was arrested at his New Kingston hotel room on Thursday night after law enforcement officials discovered a small quantity of marijuana there. On Friday, police investigators raided two St. Andrew based properties allegedly owned by “Di Teacha,” as well as one in St. Catherine; Reportedly, Kartel is being investigated regarding the discovery of a badly burnt body found at one of his residences in Havendale, St. Andrew and the searches were part of a major case that the “Worl’ Boss” could be involved in.

However, head of the Criminal Investigation Branch, Assistant Commissioner, Ealan Powell has indicated that Kartel’s arrest could be part of a wide investigation within the local music industry. “We have an interest in at least 10 other members of the entertainment industry, some of whom have been implicated in a number of murders and shootings,” Powell said. Powell refused to name which artistes were being implicated in these investigations but stressed that they have strong ties to criminal gangs across the country while some of them are involved in gun-running.

Meanwhile, Kartel will remain in custody for the duration of the weekend and police intimated that they would reveal further details about the investigations next week.

This is not the first time Kartel has been questioned regarding a possible murder. In 2008, Kartel was jailed for a few days after being named in connection with the murder of Christopher “Nunu Puss” Miller, whose brutally murdered body was found on Goshen Road in Bernard Lodge, St Catherine in August of that year.
